Facebook, WOT Partner to Protect Users

Facebook Protects Users from Untrustworthy Websites with Web of Trust Reputation Ratings

Web of Trust (WOT), the world’s leading crowd-sourced website reputation rating service, and Facebook, the Internet’s leading social platform, begin collaboration today to give Facebook’s over 500 million users reliable protection against dubious web links. When a Facebook user clicks a link that leads to a page with a poor reputation rating given by the WOT community, Facebook shows a warning message. WOT’s global community has reported five million sites for phishing, untrustworthy content, fraudulent services or various scams.

Microsoft Security Essentials Infection

There seems to be a new dog playing some old tricks, out there, which has boldly labeled itself as “Microsoft Security Essentials”. Just like other ransomware (Windows Defence, Win Antivirus 2010…), it tries to scare you into buying some software that will fix your errors, clean your entire computer system and make life, in general, much better. Don’t click it. Don’t try to close it. Shut down your computer and pick up the phone.

WARNING: Fake Antivir Rogue Antivirus

I just want to provide a quick warning about what I witnessed on a customer's computer, yesterday. In the last two weeks, I've received at least ten calls regarding fake alerts and rogue antivirus programs infecting peoples' computers. Until yesterday, it was always some no-name program like "Win Antivirus", "PCAntiMalware", "XP Antivirus Protection" or "Antivirus 2009". Yesterday was different, though. This one had actually taken the name "Antivir", which, in reality, is a trusted antivirus program, offered by a company called "Avira". Read the rest of this entry »
